Shortly after yesterday's 8-4 loss to the Orioles that stretched the Yankees' losing streak to four, Steinbrenner cried uncle.
"Enough is enough," Steinbrenner said in a statement. "I am bitterly disappointed, as I am sure all Yankee fans are (ya heard), by the lack of performance by our team. It is unbelievable to me that the highest paid team in baseball would start the season in such a deep funk."
Then, as usual, The Boss said it was Joe Torre's mess to fix.
"They are not playing like true Yankees," said Steinbrenner, who has invested more than $200 million in a team that is four games out of first place in mid-April. "They have the talent to win and they are not winning. I expect Joe Torre, his complete coaching staff and the team to turn this around."
So, 12 games into a season the 4-8 Yankees have gotten under the Boss's skin. I'm beginning to think this is the worst team money can buy. I'm sure Torre will right the ship, but c'mon. Right? |
