THE DAILY (not so much) BINGAPANT

On Tuesday, September 22nd Leavander Johnson passed away due to injuries received in his fight with Jesus Chavez this past Saturday. For awhile after the fight it appeared as if Leavander's condition had stabilized and was improving, but unfortunately he would never regain consciousness.

I watched this fight, as it was on the MAB v. Peden undercard. I didn't see anything wrong with Leavander in the ring, but apparently he lost consciousness shortly after arriving in the locker room.

Boxing is the hurt business, plain and simple. Sad day.

Moments after Mariano Rivera stranded two runners for his 41st save, a crowd of 50,382 let out a roar upon seeing that the Devil Rays overtook the Red Sox in St. Pete. They knew that this could be a night to remember.

"We haven't accomplished anything," Derek Jeter said. "Just as quickly as we've gotten here, we can go in the other direction. You can't go congratulating anyone yet."

Johnson (15-8) pulled his share after getting ejected in the second inning on Friday night in Toronto. Although he argued a check swing in the fourth, he otherwise kept his emotions in check.

This gave me the idea of fashioning my very own 'Pomeranian Fighting Machine'. I think, though, I'll probably substitute a wooden spoon for the knife. Check back tomorrow for pics of the Fam's Pom Fighting Machine (not really though).

This Saturday on HBO Erik 'El Terrible' Morales, 48-2 (34), will face off against the 'Z-man' Zahir Raheem, 28-0 (16). While there are many who see this fight as a mere formality on the way to a Morales and Manny Pacquiao rematch, others are seeing this as a competitive bout and possible upset situation. This fight pits two skilled boxers against each other, one with an unquestionable warrior spirit, and the other with speed and skill that can befuddle many an opponent.

Manny Pacquiao is fighting on the same card, and should he and Morales both win, they'll meet (again) early next year. As you all know, Morales out-pointed Pac Man in their first encounter in earlier this year. It was mos def one of the best fights I've seen this year (second only to Corrales v. Castillo), and I'm counting the minutes until they do it again.
